Being a huge fan of Guided By Voices in their lo-fi days, stumbling upon a band like the Doleful Lions is a real treat. I wouldn't totally compare them to Pollard and company, but they seem to share the same mindset of grinding out hundreds of songs and not caring too much about the production standards.

The Doleful Lions are in essence singer/writer Jonathan Scott, who crafts most of these songs in his North Carolina home. But he surrounds himself with other talented musicians that convene to record songs about b movie monsters, Krautrock bands and to do acoustic covers of Descendents songs.

Sound interesting? Well it is to me. Scott can definitely be described as a pop disciple, but with more "out there" songs like "Gimghoul Numerologist" its fairly obvious that he's a music fan of the whole spectrum, from the Beach Boys to Stockhausen.
