But Can They Seriously Beat My Ass? The Answer Is No.

This week's mp3 of the week comes piping hot, straight off the new release rack. Yo La Tengo's new record "I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass" (my favorite title of the year thus far) is a return to the way they used to be. Their last album ("Summer Sun) sucked in my opinion and i'm glad YLT is back to being noisy and quiet at the same time instead of writing silly surf songs.
However despite all the noisy feedback, every Yo La tengo record wields at least one pop gem. You may remember a previous mp3 of the week, "Stockholm Syndrome" from 'I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One'. "Beanbag Chair" is that selection from their current album. The track reeks of Beatle, in a good way. It also harkens to another of YLT's favorite songwriters, Mr. Burt Bacharach.
"Beanbag Chair" would be a good song to listen to on gigantic 1970s head phones. So if you've got a pair lying around, slap them on and groove to the feel-goodiness.

funny beanbag chair story:
we got our son cameron (then about 11-12 years old) a bean bag chair. also - he had a pet ferret, coincidentally named "bean." (because when he slept he curled up and used his butt as a pillow and looked sort of like a bean.
well, the bean bag chair had too many beans (actually, as you know, little styrofoam spheres) so he put 1/3 of them in a big glad bag and stuck it in his closet because everybody that has had a beanbag chair knows that they compress w time and it would be nice to have some extra spheres for later.
once he was cleaning his room and let bean, the ferret, wander freely. he closed the door and didn't come back for 20 minutes or so.
when he returned it turned out that bean kept crawling in and out of the glad bag of extra spheres (beans, if you will) and the static elctric chharge on his body made him become completely covered with styrofoam beans, which he spread around every corner and crevace of his room. i dont know if you have ever had a pet ferret but what they love most in life is crawling in and under things, exploring relentlessly.
we heard cameron cussing (yes, he was allowed to cuss freely - are we bad parents?) and ran to his room.
there was the ferret completely covered w static charged styrofoam spheres like some sort of long snowman, and the entire room coevered, i mean everywhere, with staticly adherent styrofoam spheres.
we laughed our asses off but cameron didnt - and you wouldnt either if you had to clean up a mess like that.
i heard another song from this album on the radio and it was awesome. can't remember which one. damn.
