Sly & the Family Stone "Underdog"
I recently picked up the Sly & the Family Stone box set containing all of the group's studio recordings. Mostly because the band's got more soul than a Korean land owner. That was bad, I'll admit, but not as bad ASS as "Underdog", the first track from the first Sly record A Whole New Thing. The horns kick like a Staxx hit and the funky drumming undercuts Sly's vocal to perfection. Why do I feel like I'm selling you a car? "Folks I hate to tell you this but yr son is dead. DEAD TIRED of listening to music that's not as funky as Sly & the Family Stone's "Underdog"!"

hey i was there back in the seventies and i have often thought about how popular sly and the family stone was back then and how it seems you never hear them any longer - they were one of the most popular bands. in light of all the 70s crap that gets replayed over and over as "classic rock" i wondered when people would start playing sly again.
well - pop zeus has made the first move and it is now happening - the sly and the family stone renaissance has begun.

in 1970, in chicago, sly and the family stone were supposed to do a free concert downtown - grant park i think. well, sly, as he was known to do, was LATE.
the crowd, naturally, rioted and began to mrach through the streets of downtown chicago throwing rocks through windows and over 100 people were injured.
where they got rocks in downtown chicago is anybody's guess.
anyway - mayor daley (r.i.p. - the current mayor's dad) decreed that there would be no more outdoor rock concerts in chicago.
i don't know how long that lasted but it lasted a while. i remember.
anyway - congrats on getting the whole sly and the family stone thing going again. i want to thank you for letting be myself - okay!?

why can't i copy any of these songs?!? I keep getting small 1 or 2 kb files that don't play.
yeah... about that.... it seems that the server i use to store these mp3s (ezarchive.com) has stopped allowing people to download them and will only let them stream. so the older posts all still work but the newer ones can only be streamed. its complete bullshit but i don't know what to do, since there are hundreds of mp3s on there and reuploading all of them would be a HUGE pain in the ass. if anyone knows an easier solution to this please let me know!
i saw sly the other day at denny's and told him how you have restarted the whole sly & the family stone thing - he seemed pretty happy to hear that . . . . as he placed my omelette in front of me.
