Toilet Metal
See now this is why I started this blog. So I could write about stuff I probably shouldn't send out in a mass email. Stuff that's not necessarily for everyone. Stuff like NECROPHAGIST.
If you look NECROPHAGIST (i personally feel their name should be written always in all uppercase letters) up on last.fm, you'll find tags like "death metal" and "technical death". "Brutal death" and "black metal". All of these descriptions apply. NECROPHAGIST is a band from Germany (label them with yr choice of the preceding tags). Apparently the band's leader (Muhammed Suicmez, known to some as "The Metal Prophet") is known for his neo-classical guitar playing. I never realiized how being able to play Chopin could apply to death metal until I heard the precision and ability that goes into Muhammed's playing.
The band recorded their first demo, "Requiems of Festered Gore", in 1992 for the sole purpose of securing gigs. Hence it was never released to the general public. A shame if you ask me that the world was never privy to such requiems. They signed to Relapse Records in 2004 and released "Epitaph", a record chock full of complicated guitar textures and enough double bass to appease any air drumming stoner. Your guess is as good as mine on the lyrics.
This is technical death metal. Allow me to explain the technicalities. Songs like "Stabwound" and "Ignominious & Pale" make you want to kill your father, but in a precise and intelligent way. Like dissecting the body into symmetrical pieces, individually wrapping those in neat packages and giving them away as Christmas presents. This music made me shit. Literally. I was listening to "Symbiotic In Theory" as I was writing this and I actually had to stop writing and go to the bathroom for a bowel movement. Perhaps it was just my biological time to go, but I don't think so. I think it was NECROPHAGIST.
So if yr having trouble going, maybe pick up this album and keep it in the bathroom, right next to yr Pig Destroyer poster and yr copy of Metal Maniacs.
